“This is going to be the best/worst party ever!” “What do you want to do?” “Ohhhh…..oookkkaaaaayyyy.” The above are all examples of scene starts I have heard, and probably done, in my improv career. The start of a scene is the most crucial part. So much information needs to be shared in those first few moments. That can be very daunting, and because of that a lot of our scene starts become generic and take the spontaneity out of what should be a springboard to fun. This workshop pushes improvisors to start their scenes in a more dynamic and informative way by skipping past the obvious and learning to access the choices that start you in the middle of a scene, giving you and your partner a better foundation.
